Rhode Island Sports Council Announces Major Junior Golf Tournament |

Providence, RI. — For the first time, the American Junior Golf Association will be conducting one of its top-tier national junior golf events August 7-10 at Crestwood Country Club. The AJGA Rhode Island Classic will allow the Northeast’s top junior golfers, ages 12-18, the opportunity to showcase their skills against the nation’s best players. John T. Mousseau, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Sports Council, said “We are delighted to host this prestigious tournament at a Rhode Island Golf Association member club.” Mousseau added “the management and staff at Crestwood has really gotten behind this event and shows their true commitment for developing golf’s next generation through support of junior golf.” The tournament field will be filled through the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry system, but numerous spots will be held for those participating in the Srixon Qualifier taking place at Wentworth Hills Golf Club Monday, August 6 at 1:30 p.m. For more information on participating in the tournament qualifier, contact the AJGA’s Player Services Department at (770) 868-4200. The tournament practice round will take place Tuesday, August 7 at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament at 1:30 p.m. Tournament play will begin Wednesday, August 8 with first-round tee times beginning at 7 a.m. off the No.1 tee. The second and final rounds will also begin at 7 a.m. Thursday and Friday, respectively. The awards ceremony will directly follow final-round play Friday at Crestwood Country Club. The AJGA Rhode Island Classic is one of 80 events the AJGA will conduct in 2007. This year, AJGA tournaments will take place in more than 25 states. The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has an annual membership of more than 5,000 junior golfers (boys and girls ages 12-18) from 49 states and more than 25 foreign countries. |
