WPBA Rolls Into Rhode Island for 2007 Cutec Cues U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

The Women's Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) in conjunction with the Rhode Island Sports Council announce that the WPBA rolls into Twin River (formerly Lincoln Park) in Lincoln, RI for its most prestigious tournament of the year, the Cutec Cues U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, August 2 - August 5. Last year's champion, world #1 ranked Allison Fisher, will be on hand to defend her title, fresh off her first win of 2007 at the Florida Classic in Hollywood, FL on July 1. All of the world's top players are scheduled to compete, including Ireland's Karen Corr, England's Kelly Fisher, Kim Shaw and Sarah Ellerby, Korean Ga-Young Kim, Austrian Gerda Hofstatter, Sweden's Ewa Laurance and Helena Thornfeldt, and Americans Monica Webb, Vivian Villarreal, Jeanette Lee, Tiffany Nelson, Melissa Herndon and Jennifer Barretta.

This event marks the first time the Cutec Cues U.S. Open has been hosted at a Northeast location. "The players of the WPBA are extremely excited about the move to Twin River and their newly remodeled facility," says Peg Ledman, WPBA Tour coordinator. "The new venue coupled with 7 hours of ESPN coverage should make for a very exciting tournament for both the players and fans."

Total purse for the event is $110,000. The Saturday and Sunday rounds will be taped to be televised on the ESPN Network. Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.com, and range from $10 single session general admission to $200 for a VIP All Event Pass. The Championship kicks off with a media night / Charity Pro/Am on Wednesday, August 1 at 7 p.m. Admission to the Pro/Am is a $20 donation. For more information, visit www.wpba.com.

The Women’s Professional Billiard Association, 31 years strong, is the premier tour for professional women’s billiard events.

The Rhode Island Sports Council is a non-profit public-private partnership whose mission is to attract major amateur and professional sporting events to the state as an economic generator and tourism vehicle.
