WPBA Primed for Six Champions in Six Tournaments at 2007 Cutec Cues
U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

The Women's Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) is making history in the 2007 season with an unprecedented five different winners in the first five events. After a history of being dominated by one or two players each year, the WPBA could be poised to crown its sixth winner in six starts for the first time in Association history, when the tour rolls into Twin River (formerly Lincoln Park) in Lincoln, RI for its most prestigious tournament of the year, the Cutec Cues U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, August 2 - August 5.

"This is a history-making season," says Peg Ledman, WPBA Tour coordinator. "Not since the Classic Tour was formed have we had a start like this. We're excited to see if we can crown number six for 2007."

However, history won't be made if Allison Fisher has anything to do with  it. The world's #1 player has averaged just over five wins per year since 1996, including four consecutive seven-win seasons from 1996 - 1999. She comes to Rhode Island to defend her title fresh off her first win in 2007 at the Florida Classic, defeating rising star Ga-Young Kim 7-3 in the finals on July 1. Kim has five titles to her credit on tour, including the 2007 season opener at the Carolina Women's Billiard Classic. All of the world's top players are scheduled to compete in Rhode Island, including Ireland's Karen Corr, England's Kelly Fisher, Kim Shaw and Sarah Ellerby, Korean Ga-Young Kim, Austrian Gerda Hofstatter, Sweden's Ewa Laurance and Helena Thornfeldt, Austrian Jasmine Ouschan and Americans Monica Webb, Vivian Villarreal, Jeanette Lee, Tiffany Nelson, Melissa Herndon and Jennifer Barretta.

Total purse for the event is $110,000. The Saturday and Sunday rounds will be taped to be televised on the ESPN Network. Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.com, and range from $10 single session general admission to $200 for a VIP All Event Pass. The Championship kicks off with a media night / Charity Pro/Am on  Wed. Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. Admission to the Pro/Am is a $20 donation. For more information, visit www.wpba.com.
